SPECIALIZED PROGRAMS

In addition to traditional courses, we also offer Honors courses in the subject areas of English, History and Science. Our Honors courses meet the needs of college-bound students seeking a challenging academic curriculum in a distance learning environment. The Honors program offers students an exciting opportunity to develop the critical thinking, research, and writing skills so essential to academic and professional success.

World Language courses are offered for an additional fee through Powerspeak. An award-winning, standards-based curriculum including engaging, age-appropriate content, games, and culturally relevant activities.

All courses can be adapted to the Carnegie Unit system. For example, 10 credits in our course system equal 1 Carnegie unit, and 5 credits equals 0.5 Carnegie units.

HIGH QUALITY CURRICULUM

Assessments

Each course contains regular milestone assignments which are aligned to course learning goals and act as unit progress assessments. Milestones can typically be found in lessons 6,12,18,24,30, and 36 and may be used to gauge student progress and understanding.

National and State Standards

The curriculum is designed in alignment with national standards, state standards, and specific learning goals, to promote independent thinking and active learning. In many of our course offerings, students are asked to develop their own questions and work independently. Since publishers do not offer a 'National' (all 50 states) version of most courses, or 50 different versions, we have chosen the California version of most courses as California is our most populous state and the standards are among the highest in the nation.

36 Week lessons

Courses are organized in individual lessons, providing opportunities for students to focus on manageable increments of course work. Activities are designed to elicit a variety of responses appropriate for multiple intelligences, skill levers, interests and learning styles.

Each year-long course contains 36 weekly lessons with a 4 to 5 hour workload per lesson (totaling approximately 144 class hours). A semester course contains 18 lessons. Students may enroll at any time throughout the year and proceed at a pace that meets their needs.

OPTIONAL SERVICES

We can offer you the option of hiring an experienced teacher to handle the grading and assist your student throughout the course. See our Pricing page for more information.
